Furniture refinishing is a complex and time-consuming process. It’s the art of removing the existing finish, sanding it and reapplying a fresh finish. The construction of the piece stays as is, but the new finish can often alter the entire look.  

Restoring furniture may be easier or more difficult, depending on the condition and age of the piece. The first goal is cleaning it, while the second involves enhancing its look, which might involve tasks such as fixing scratches in the wood on dining room tables. 

However, this may be challenging on vintage or antique furniture, considering its potential vulnerability due to age. You may have to take extra precautions while cleaning upholstery on decades-old couches and chairs. 

Is It More Cost Effective to Repair Damaged Furniture or Buy New?

The answer is subjective. For example, you may feel the furniture isn’t salvageable due to water damage or worth the costs to repair it, or the repair cost might be much more than what it would be to buy a similar piece in brand-new condition.
